The High School Football Huddle
With West Des Moines Valley and Ankeny being the only two 4-A teams to score over 500 points this season, everyone was thinking Friday night's state semifinal could be a shootout. By the time the game hit the second quarter, the large crowd at the UNI-Dome thought that only Ankeny brought its offense as the Hawks ran out to a 14-0 lead over the top-seed and undefeated Tigers. However, Valley (13-0) didn't collapse and scored 21 unanswered points to beat Ankeny 21-14 and advance to the 4-A state championship game for the first time since 2005.
