Emmetsburg and West Lyon battled to the lowest scoring game in Iowa high school football championship game history. The E'Hawks won the state's 1-A championship with a 3-0 win, which is the school's ninth. It also marked a new championship classification victory for Emmetsburg, which now has won titles in 3-A, 2-A and now 1-A. Only Wapsie Valley has won titles in three classifications. Heelan is Iowa's Class 3-A high school football champ after handing Decorah's its first loss of the season Saturday. The Crusaders, who had lost six straight championship games, beat Decorah 35-10 behind Brandon Wegher's five touchdowns, which set a Class 3-A championship game record. One of the TDs was a 100-yard interception return, which is also a record.
Solon won its 27th straight game Saturday to win its second straight Iowa Class 2-A championship. Solon beat Central Lyon/George-Little Rock 60-14. The 60-points sets a new record for points in a championship game in all classes. It is the second year in a row that Solon won the title by beating Central Lyon/George-Little Rock.

With West Des Moines Valley and Ankeny being the only two 4-A teams to score over 500 points this season, everyone was thinking Friday night's state semifinal could be a shootout. By the time the game hit the second quarter, the large crowd at the UNI-Dome thought that only Ankeny brought its offense as the Hawks ran out to a 14-0 lead over the top-seed and undefeated Tigers. However, Valley (13-0) didn't collapse and scored 21 unanswered points to beat Ankeny 21-14 and advance to the 4-A state championship game for the first time since 2005. Next week Valley will play Cedar Falls for the state title. Click here for a game story.
